About Dr. Dowding and Staff: Dr. Dowding has been an optometrist in the Tampa bay area for 23 years. His first practice was downtown on Twiggs Street. Then moved to Himes avenue across from the stadium. After this location we moved the practice to Armenia Avenue next to McDonalds. The present location 4816 N. Armenia Ave is just North of Osborn Ave. kitty corner from Regal bowling Lanes. We will be moving to our new location as of October 1st directly across the street in a much larger, more modern building 4819 N. Armenia Ave. second floor South West corner of building. We are looking forward to our new location and our new look. Dr. Dowding was born in Vancouver B.C. Canada and moved with his family to Southern California at the age of 5. He grew up in Southern California till graduation from University of California Santa Barbara. From this time he lived in Provo, Utah, White Horse Yukon, Territory, Honolulu, Hawaii then off to Optometry school in Boston Massachusetts. After graduation from optometry school he started his practice in Tampa, October 1983 and has been practicing here ever since. Dr. Dowding and his wife, Daryl, have been married for 18 years. Being a licensed mental health counselor, Daryl practices in Tampa and Lakeland. They built a new house in Plant City two years ago and enjoy sharing it with their 3 wonderful dogs Harley, Trudy and Missy. Our long time companion cat Rufus is old, but has been a joy for 18 years. Ann, Office Manager, has been with Dr. Dowding for over 20 years now. Not only is she a fantastic worker and office manager but also she has developed advanced skills in frame fitting and style advising for best fit and appearance for our patients. She has an ongoing passion to pick the best frames and materials that match our patient's needs and wants. No decision in the office is made without her approval. She prides herself in keeping up with all the latest styles and trends in the optical business. Ann stays on top of the latest innovations and technology offered by manufacturing representatives on a weekly basis. Sue is my insurance specialist and computer wiz and works part time and as needed to manage the insurance billing and accounting. She is also my Sister in law and lives in Riverview with my brother David and their two children Alan and Rebecca. Alice is our "jack-of-all-trades". She instructs customers on how to care and maintain their contact lenses. She has past experience in the optical business and has a well rounded exposure to the many apects of our business. Maribel is Dr. Dowding's assistant and helps with all the technical pre-testing (Optos Retinal Scan, non-contact glaucoma testing and automated refracting) and patient imputing for record keeping. What We Do: Dr. Dowding is an optometrist and provider of optometric services plus eye care products. We pride ourselves in providing state of the art vision examinations, treat and manage eye related problems, glasses and contacts. Dr. Dowding has integrated into his practice cutting edge equipment and technologies that set his practice apart from the average provider. He is certified to fit the new CRT contacts that can alter mild myopia and astigmatism w/o surgery. We provide 3d streaming video education about how eyes work, treatment options and innovative optical devices available in our office.
